About Us

Turnberrie's is a new building for Thornbury Community.

Although Turnberrie’s is owned by South Gloucestershire Council, it is operated and maintained by Thornbury Community Building Trust (TCBT) under lease. The Trust was formed as a charity in 2006 in anticipation of the new building. TCBT is made up of Trustees and a Management Committee whose aim is to ensure that the building serves the needs of Thornbury.

Turnberrie’s is a building for Thornbury Community. It is hoped that it will be used by the whole community. It is the home to two South Gloucestershire Services;

  • South Glos Day Services (Resource and Activity Centre) - A base used by adults with learning difficulties.

The building is situated on the Old Market site in Thornbury which had been derelict for many years. The buildings for both the Youth Centre and Siblands (Old Day Centre) were rapidly deteriorating and so South Gloucestershire Council decided to build a new community building to house both of these services and also provide facilities for the whole community. The cost of the new building will be covered by the sale of the land at the former Youth Centre and Siblands sites at no cost to the tax payers.

The Name
Turnberrie’s is the name chosen for the new Community Building in Thornbury. Turnberrie's is the name which Thornbury had in 1086, at the time of William the Conqueror, and as recorded in the Domesday or Doomsday Book . So Turnberrie’s means belonging to Thornbury – which is a good start for the new building!
Get Involved
TCBT are seeking volunteers to join the management committee to help develop Turnberrie’s to meet community needs. What TCBT needs are enthusiastic ‘can do’ people who will turn their hand to almost anything and use their skills for the community. If you know of any people who fit this bill please encourage them to come forward. (Contact Us)
